Yona Melody offers free music sharing for original 5 string open back banjo songs, with the aim of encouraging anyone to pick up the banjo and try it.
The Practice Rooms contain everything needed to learn and practice a song, including: lyrics, banjo tab, music notation, chords and practice sound files.
Knowing which type of open back banjo to choose can be a difficult task, so a range of sound files using different types of banjos are available in the Banjos and Sounds areas.
‘Yona’ is the Cherokee word for Bear - so ‘Yona Melody’ means ‘Bear Song’
There are no permanent members of the band ‘Yona’, but, any person or group of people who play songs available on Yona Melody are part of the Yona group of musicians, who have the sole aim of encouraging others to pick up the 5 string open back banjo and try it.
When using the songs available to play, sing or dance….if you feel there are too many notes - take some out….not enough notes - put some in. Don’t like some lyrics - change them, or better still, write new ones. Music is a living history we can change and re-live in a new way, over and over again. Dance your own dance, use the resources offered how you want to, and above all…….
Miyo - Make it your own
Free use, performance and recording of all songs is actively encouraged.
